Is Memodyne Safe? Drug Clashes, Side Effects and Who Should Skip It
Quick answer
Is Memodyne safe? No safety study of the Memodyne capsule exists, and the label lists no side effects, so what we know comes from its ingredients at larger doses. Arginine and citrulline can lower blood pressure and may add to nitrates, sildenafil-type drugs and blood pressure pills. If that fits you, or you are pregnant, nursing or under 18, ask a doctor first.

Safe is a word that sounds final, and for a supplement it never is. Safe for whom, with which medicines, at what dose, for how long? A healthy adult with no prescriptions and a person on three blood pressure pills are asking two different questions.
So this page does not give one verdict. It sorts people by situation. We start with what safe can mean for a supplement, then go through the ingredients, the medicine clashes, and the groups who should ask first. All of it comes from the label and the health sources the site cites.
Key facts
- No study of the finished Memodyne capsule has reported safety results. Side effects of the formula: not published.
- The label caution says do not exceed the recommended dose, and that pregnant or nursing mothers, anyone under 18 and people with a known medical condition should consult a physician first.
- Arginine can lower blood pressure and may add to nitrates, sildenafil-type drugs and blood pressure medicines.
- Arginine may lower blood sugar, so diabetes medicine is on the ask-first list.
- A trial of about 9 g of arginine a day after heart attacks saw more deaths on arginine than on placebo.
- Tingling from beta alanine starts near 800 mg and niacin flushing near 30 mg; the capsule has 40 mg and 7.5 mg.
- Do not use a bottle whose safety seal is damaged or missing.
What does safe mean for a dietary supplement like Memodyne?
For supplements, safe does not mean tested before sale. The FDA does not approve dietary supplements before they are sold, and the maker answers for safety and for claims (FDA, FDA 101: Dietary Supplements) (NCCIH, Using Dietary Supplements Wisely).
Natural does not mean safe either. The NCCIH says herbal and other products can interact with medicines. Memodyne is not an herbal product, but the same rule holds: a label is a list of contents, not a clean bill of health.
So the practical test is personal. Does anything on your medicine list or in your history match a caution tied to these ingredients? If yes, ask first. If no, the label dose is one capsule a day, and the label says not to exceed it.
What can each Memodyne ingredient do on its own?
No source studies this exact capsule, so we go ingredient by ingredient. Every figure below came from research at amounts that are much larger than one capsule holds.
| Ingredient | Label amount | Effects the sources list | Studied at |
|---|---|---|---|
| L-arginine (both forms) | Under 400 mg | Nausea, belly pain, bloating, diarrhea, headache; allergic reactions; low blood pressure | 2 to 24 g a day |
| L-citrulline (both forms) | Under 200 mg | Stomach upset in 6 of 41 weightlifters in one study; shares arginine's interactions | 3 to 9 g a day |
| Beta alanine | 40 mg | Pins-and-needles skin, common from about 800 mg at once | 1.6 to 6.4 g a day |
| Niacin | 7.5 mg NE | Flushing from 30 to 50 mg of nicotinic acid; the form on the label is not stated | Upper limit 35 mg from supplements |
| Calcium | 18 mg | Gas, bloating and constipation; can slow levothyroxine absorption | Adult need 1,000 to 1,200 mg |
Small amounts make dose-driven problems, such as loose stools or tingling, less likely. They do not switch off drug interactions, because no source names an amount below which the arginine warnings stop.
Which medicines clash with arginine and citrulline?
This is the section that matters most. The table lists each medicine group the sources raise, the ingredient behind the warning and a sensible next step.
| Medicine or condition | Why | Sensible step |
|---|---|---|
| Blood pressure medicine | Pressure may fall too low; RxList rates the interaction Major | Doctor's okay before the first capsule |
| Nitrates (nitroglycerin, isosorbide); sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil | Pressure may drop too far | Do not combine without the prescriber |
| Diabetes medicine or insulin | Arginine may lower blood sugar | Ask how to monitor |
| Blood thinners | Possible bleeding risk, per Mayo Clinic | Ask your doctor |
| Spironolactone, amiloride, triamterene | Potassium may run high, per Mayo Clinic | Ask your doctor |
| Levothyroxine | Calcium carbonate can reduce absorption | Ask a pharmacist about spacing |
| Surgery planned | One source advises stopping arginine at least 2 weeks before | Tell your surgical team |
Sources: (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine) (RxList, L-Arginine (supplement monograph)) (NIH ODS, Niacin (consumer)). WebMD adds that citrulline with sildenafil, tadalafil or vardenafil may cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure (WebMD, L-citrulline: Uses and Risks).
Why is a past heart attack the clearest reason to skip it?
Because it is the one group where a trial saw harm. The VINTAGE MI trial gave 153 heart attack patients about 9 g of L-arginine a day or a placebo for six months. Six on arginine died, which is 8.6%, against none on placebo. The authors advised against arginine after a heart attack (JAMA 2006, Schulman et al., L-arginine after heart attack (VINTAGE MI)).
Mayo Clinic says arginine is not recommended after a recent heart attack (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine). The trial used over 20 times the arginine in one capsule, so it does not prove harm at 400 mg. It does explain why heart history matters, and it is a decision for your cardiologist, not a sales page.

Who should ask a doctor or pharmacist before trying Memodyne?
Anyone who matches a line below. The sources give no safe lower limit, so the small label amounts do not cancel these cautions.
- People who take nitrates, sildenafil-type drugs, blood pressure medicine, diabetes medicine or blood thinners.
- People with a history of heart attack or heart disease.
- People who get cold sores often. One drug-information source cautions that arginine might make herpes worse.
- People with kidney or liver problems, or low blood pressure.
- Anyone pregnant, nursing or under 18, as the label says.
- Anyone who takes a pre-workout or other nitric oxide product, since the amino acids add up across labels.
If you answered yes to any of these, bring the Memodyne label to your doctor or pharmacist with your full medicine list. They can check it against what you take.
How can a healthy adult start Memodyne more safely?
List every medicine
Include prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs and other supplements.
Check the seal
The label says not to use the product if the safety seal is damaged or missing.
Take one capsule
One a day with 8 oz of water. Never two to catch up.
Watch the first two weeks
Note dizziness on standing, stomach upset, a rash or a cold sore flare.
Keep your notes
A short log helps you and your doctor judge what changed.
Do not take more capsules to reach studied doses. It would break the label limit, and gram doses of arginine caused diarrhea and nausea in exercise research (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Exercise and Athletic Performance (health professional)).
When should you stop taking Memodyne and get help?
Stop and get help the same day for a serious reaction, and call your doctor about anything that lingers. Keep the bottle to show what you took.
- Swollen face or throat, hives or trouble breathing: seek emergency help.
- Fainting, or dizziness each time you stand.
- Stomach pain or diarrhea lasting more than a few days.
- A cold sore or herpes flare after you start.
The FDA asks people to stop and report a supplement that causes a problem (FDA, FDA 101: Dietary Supplements). Stopping does not cancel a refund request, as long as you reach the order desk inside the 60 days.
Frequently asked questions
Is Memodyne safe to take every day?
The label sets one capsule a day as the limit. No study of the capsule reports long-term safety, so ask a doctor if you take medicines or have a health condition.
Does Memodyne have side effects?
It can. Stomach upset and headache are listed for arginine. The bigger risk is low blood pressure with heart, blood pressure or erectile dysfunction medicines.
Can I take Memodyne with blood pressure medicine?
Only after your doctor agrees. RxList rates arginine with blood pressure medicines as a Major interaction.
Can I take Memodyne with Viagra or sildenafil?
Not without your prescriber. With sildenafil, tadalafil or vardenafil, blood pressure may drop too far.
Is Memodyne safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
The label tells pregnant and nursing mothers to consult a physician first. Effects of arginine and beta alanine in pregnancy are unknown.
Will the niacin make my skin flush?
Unlikely. Flushing usually starts at 30 to 50 mg of nicotinic acid, and the capsule has 7.5 mg NE.
Our view
Our view is that Memodyne carries ordinary supplement risk plus one real concern: the blood pressure effect of arginine and citrulline. For a healthy adult on no medicines, the label dose is small, and trouble is unlikely. For anyone else, that one concern can matter a lot.
We would rather you ask one extra question than skip one. A pharmacist can check the label against your list in minutes. And if the reason you are looking at a capsule is a worry about memory, the safest next step is a visit to your doctor.
